Seven games in, Ligue 1 has an unusual look to it.
Lyon sit top. Paris Saint Germain sit second. Both have 14 points, and so do Paris FC, Lille and Monaco, which makes this less a title decider than a very crowded top of the table.
The last time these two met at the Parc des Princes, Lyon went home with a 2-1 win in April, which the home fans will not have forgotten.
This time the visitors arrive with the best defensive record in the division and the hosts arrive with a hurt squad, so there is plenty to argue about before kick-off.
How did Paris Saint Germain get here? Unevenly, but mostly well.
They have won four of their last seven in all competitions, drawn two and lost one, and the home defeat to Monaco on 4 September is the only blemish on a recent run that has produced four straight wins since, most recently 3-1 at Strasbourg on 17 October.
The curious part is the split between home and away. PSG have taken 10 of their 14 league goals on the road, where they have won three and drawn two from five, while their two home games have brought one win and that Monaco loss.
They have also been busy at the other end of the scoresheet, with 14 scored and nine conceded, and they have kept just one clean sheet all season.
The underlying numbers are strong, though. PSG average 2.62 expected goals per game and 20.86 shots, which suggests the table is not telling the whole story.
Lyon are a different sort of team, and a rather tidy one.
They have conceded only five league goals in seven games, an average of 0.71, and have kept three clean sheets, two of them away from home.
However, their away form is the thing to watch. Lyon have scored just three goals on the road in three games, against 10 at home, and they lost 2-1 at Lens on 9 October.
They bounced back with a 2-1 home win over Nice last Sunday, so they arrive in good spirits and with the league's best goal difference, plus eight.
Form guide ahead of Paris Saint Germain v Lyon
Paris Saint Germain have won four, drawn two and lost one of their last seven, and Lyon's record over the same stretch is identical at four wins, two draws and one defeat.
The surface similarity hides a difference in style. PSG's last five results include four wins, with three of them by two clear goals or more, whereas Lyon's run takes in a 4-0 win over Rennes and a goalless draw at Paris FC.
PSG have been the more dominant side by the numbers, with 68.1% possession against Lyon's 51.7%, so the better shape probably belongs to the hosts even if the results do not separate them.

Paris Saint Germain v Lyon in the Ligue 1 table
Lyon are first on 14 points from seven games with a goal difference of plus eight. PSG are second on the same 14 points from seven games, with a goal difference of plus five.
The cushion is thin. Paris FC, Lille and Monaco are all on 14 as well, and Rennes are a point behind on 13, so nobody here can afford to relax.
A home win would put PSG top of the table, at least until the rest of the weekend's games are in. A Lyon win would take them three clear of PSG and leave them with a three-point gap over most of the chasing pack, which would be a statement of intent from the league's best defence.
A draw suits no one very much, though Lyon would probably take it.

LyonHead-to-head record: Paris Saint Germain v Lyon
Across the last 10 meetings PSG have won seven, Lyon two and one has been drawn. The games have been open, too, with an average of 3.4 goals per meeting, both teams scoring in 80% of them and more than 2.5 goals in 70%.
The most recent was Lyon's 2-1 win at the Parc des Princes on 19 April 2026, which came after PSG's 3-2 win at Lyon on 9 November 2025.
The historical lean is clear, and it favours PSG on the result and goals on the totals. However, Lyon have won the latest meeting in Paris and no longer look like pushovers.
The markets will like the goals angle. Both teams to score at 1/2 and over 2.5 goals at 4/11 both fit the pattern, and a scoreline in the 2-1 or 3-1 range is the obvious correct score lean.
Where this fixture is won and lost
The biggest gap is at the back. Lyon concede 0.71 goals a game over their recent run against PSG's 1.29, and they have three clean sheets to the hosts' one.
The second gap goes the other way. PSG take 20.86 shots a game against Lyon's 12.57, with 7.29 on target against 4.86, and their expected goals figure of 2.62 dwarfs Lyon's 1.65.
Then there is the set-piece angle. PSG win 5.71 corners a game and concede just 1.86, while Lyon give away 6.29.
Put those together and you have a hosts' attack that creates plenty against a visiting defence that does not concede much. Something has to give, and the likeliest answer is that PSG's volume breaks Lyon's resistance at least once.

Paris Saint Germain v Lyon betting tips
The value sits in the goals. PSG's attack is well ahead of the price on Lyon's defence, the head-to-head has produced both teams scoring in 80% of meetings, and the hosts' shot volume means a clean sheet for Lyon would be a surprise. The home win is short at 2/5, but the supporting markets pay better and still lean the same way.
