Porto open their Champions League league phase campaign against opposition considerably tougher than anything they have faced domestically this season. F. Farioli was in reflective mood when asked about Porto's history in this competition ahead of the visit of City. He said: "The history of FC Porto in the Champions League is enormous, in terms of games played, participations and the two trophies that are there. Now we are going to face one of the main candidates to win the title. We have huge respect for the opponent, for their individual quality, their organisation, for the legacy they built with Pep Guardiola and the new era with Maresca."

He added that his side would give everything to send their own fans home happy, noting that the Dragao has a habit of producing something special on European nights.
