Liverpool v Brighton: Anfield is waiting for a league win
Anfield has not seen a Liverpool league victory this season. The hosts have drawn twice and lost once at home, scoring two goals and conceding five. The last visit ended in a 3-0 defeat by Manchester City on 11 October.
Brighton turn up in a very different mood. They are third, they have won five of their seven league games, and they beat Crystal Palace 5-0 last weekend. Liverpool, by contrast, bounced back at Brentford with a 2-1 win on 17 October.
Something has to give on Sunday afternoon, and the home crowd will want it to be the run of home frustration.
Liverpool's form and context
Liverpool sit fifth on 12 points from seven games, with three wins, three draws and one defeat. Their goal difference is +1, the lowest of any side in the top five. Away from home they have been fine, with three wins and a draw from four and seven goals scored. At Anfield they have mustered just two.
The numbers behind the results are healthier. Liverpool average 15.71 shots and 5 on target per game over their last seven, with an expected goals figure of 1.56 against 1.29 actual goals per game. They are creating enough, but not finishing. A. Isak has five league goals, from 14 shots and eight on target, and he is the one reliable source.
Brighton's angle
Brighton have the third-best record in the league, on 16 points from seven games. They are four points clear of Liverpool and level in games played. Their 23 goals are the most in the division and they have conceded only five.
The pattern is striking. They won 4-0 at home to one of the division's sides, 5-0 at Coventry and 3-0 at home to Arsenal, and their only defeat came 4-3 at Chelsea on 30 August. Five of their seven league goals conceded came in the first 15 minutes, so Liverpool know the window to hurt them: start fast. Even so, Brighton have not failed to score in a single league game this season.
Form guide ahead of Liverpool v Brighton
Over their last seven league games, Liverpool have won three, drawn three and lost one. Brighton have won five, drawn one and lost one. Brighton also score twice as many: 3.29 goals a game against 1.29. Liverpool's record at least looks sturdier away from home than at Anfield, so the surface numbers favour the visitors. But Brighton's seven games included Coventry, Sunderland and Crystal Palace, and only one of those opponents is in the top half of the table. Liverpool's wobbles have come against Manchester City, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, which is a harder run. Brighton are in better shape. The question is how they handle a proper test.
Stats for Liverpool v Brighton
- Head-to-head: Liverpool have won five of the last 10 meetings, Brighton four, with one draw. Brighton won the most recent 2-1 at the Amex Stadium on 21 March 2026.
- Liverpool are winless in three home league games this season (two draws, one defeat), with two goals scored and five conceded.
- Brighton have scored 23 goals in seven league games, 3.3 a match, and have not failed to score once.
- Brighton have kept five clean sheets in seven league games. Liverpool have three.
- Nine of the last 10 meetings produced more than 2.5 goals, at an average of 3.4 per game.
Liverpool v Brighton in the Premier League table
Brighton are third on 16 points from seven games, a point clear of fourth-placed Chelsea's 13 plus three. In other words, they sit inside the Champions League places with a three-point cushion over Chelsea, and they are 10 points behind leaders Manchester City. Liverpool are fifth on 12 points, one behind Chelsea and two clear of sixth-placed Brentford on 10.
A Liverpool win would cut the gap to Brighton to one point and put the pressure on Chelsea. A Brighton win would open a five-point lead over Liverpool and leave the hosts looking over their shoulder at Brentford, Leeds and Everton, who are all on 10. It is early, but a Liverpool defeat would also be a fourth league game without a home win, which becomes a story of its own.
Liverpool
BrightonHead-to-head record: Liverpool v Brighton
The last 10 meetings in all competitions have produced five Liverpool wins, four Brighton wins and one draw. They average 3.4 goals per game, both teams scored in seven of the 10 (70%) and nine of the 10 had more than 2.5 goals (90%). Brighton won the latest, 2-1 at the Amex Stadium on 21 March 2026. Liverpool won the two before that at Anfield, 3-0 in the FA Cup on 14 February 2026 and 2-0 in the league on 13 December 2025.
The pattern is hard to ignore. Games between these two are open, and Brighton have beaten Liverpool in both of their last two league trips to the Amex, 3-2 in May 2025 and 2-1 in March. At Anfield, Liverpool kept clean sheets in the last two. The goals market looks strong given a 90% over 2.5 rate, though Liverpool's own season numbers (no game over 2.5 goals in their supplied season stats) argue for caution. Both teams to score is the safer lean, and a 2-1 or 2-2 correct score fits the history.
Where this fixture is won and lost
The biggest gap is in front of goal. Brighton score 3.29 goals per game over their last seven and carry an expected goals figure of 2.13, against Liverpool's 1.29 and 1.56. They also take more shots, 17.86 to 15.71, with six on target per game against five.
The second gap is at the back. Brighton have five clean sheets in seven and concede 0.71 a game, while Liverpool concede 1.14 and have kept three clean sheets. Liverpool's problem is home matches, where they average 1.7 conceded. Possession is closer, 59.7% for Brighton and 55.7% for Liverpool, so this will not be a one-sided territory game. It comes down to whether Liverpool can finish the chances they make.
Predicted line-ups for Liverpool v Brighton
Both sides have used a 4-2-3-1 in all seven league games. Liverpool are without two injured regulars, so the midfield and right-back picks are the main questions. Brighton have a long list of absentees but should field a settled spine.
Liverpool: Alisson; Gomez, Van Dijk, Araujo, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Barcola, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak
Brighton: Verbruggen; Kadioglu, Dunk, Vuskovic, De Cuyper; Gross, Ayari; Osman, Rutter, Hinshelwood; Kostoulas

Liverpool v Brighton betting tips
The strongest angle is goals at both ends. Brighton have scored in every league game this season, and seven of the last 10 meetings saw both teams find the net. Liverpool's home record of two scored and five conceded points to an open game rather than a one-way one. The bet builder leans on Liverpool's home advantage and Isak's form, while the main tip sits on the market that carries the least risk.
