Belgium arrive at BC Place in Vancouver for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G finale having done considerably less than their talent suggests. Two draws, a 1-1 against Egypt and a goalless stalemate with Iran, have left Rudi Garcia's side on two points, third in the group and in urgent need of three more to guarantee a place in the round of 32. For New Zealand, the stakes are no less serious. The All Whites sit bottom of Group G on a single point, meaning this is the biggest match in their World Cup history since the 2010 group stage, when they went home unbeaten but eliminated.

New Zealand's campaign has been one of genuine moments alongside familiar vulnerability. A 2-2 draw with Iran on matchday one, in which Elijah Just scored both goals, gave Darren Bazeley's side real cause for optimism. A 3-1 defeat to Egypt then brought them back to earth: they led, then conceded three times after the break. That fragility at the back, conceding an average of 2.5 goals per game across their two matches, is the concern Bazeley must address here.

For Belgium, the failings have come at the other end. Prior to this tournament, Garcia's side had scored seven goals in five matches in warmup fixtures, including a 5-0 win over Tunisia. At the World Cup itself, they managed just one tournament goal in their first two games, and that came via an Egyptian own goal. Their average xG of 2.25 per game flatters their finishing. Kevin De Bruyne, 34 and operating out of Napoli, remains the creative engine. The question is whether Romelu Lukaku, used off the bench against Egypt, starts here with qualification on the line.

Belgium are on a 15-match unbeaten run stretching back to March 2025, but that sequence has done little to quieten doubters. Garcia confirmed ahead of kick-off that Jeremy Doku is available but not ready to start, having only recently returned to the squad after a personal absence. "Even in his absence, we were able to create many opportunities against Iran," Garcia told Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad. "What we need tomorrow is mainly more effectiveness, composure, decisive ability to finish attacks, and determination in front of the goal."

For New Zealand, Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood leads the line. Wood provided two assists in the draw with Iran and is the focal point of everything Bazeley's side try to do going forward. Elijah Just, the Motherwell winger, has been the team's most dangerous outlet in the final third.

match result: belgium to win

Belgium have been misfiring badly, but their underlying numbers, averaging 2.25 xG per game and 35 shots in warmup fixtures, suggest a side that should score freely against the group's most porous defence. New Zealand conceded five goals across two games and have not kept a single clean sheet in this campaign. Garcia has the firepower to end his side's scoring drought in emphatic fashion. The All Whites will give everything, and Elijah Just is more than capable of grabbing a goal, but Belgium should run out comfortable winners.

TIP 01✗ Miss

Correct Score: 1-4

Belgium's xG average of 2.25 per game points to a multi-goal haul once their finishing clicks. New Zealand have scored in both group matches and are unlikely to be shut out. A 4-1 scoreline, Belgium cutting loose in a must-win, New Zealand grabbing a late consolation via Just or Wood, reflects the gap in quality without dismissing the All Whites entirely.

TIP 02✓ Hit

Over 2.5 Goals: Over

Both of New Zealand's group matches have gone over 2.5 goals, a 2-2 draw with Iran and a 3-1 defeat to Egypt. Belgium carry an xG average of 2.25 per game and have been wasteful, not toothless. With a must-win on the line and New Zealand's defence showing real vulnerability, over 2.5 goals at 5/4 is strongly supported.

TIP 03✓ Hit

Both Teams to Score: Yes

New Zealand have scored in every group match, twice against Iran and once against Egypt despite losing 3-1. Chris Wood provides a consistent aerial threat and Elijah Just has shown he can get on the ball in dangerous areas. Belgium, for all their defensive solidity, conceded to Egypt in the opener. BTTS landing in both New Zealand matches makes Yes the call here at 10/11.

TIP 04✓ Hit

Anytime Goalscorer: Leandro Trossard

Trossard has been one of the more consistent attackers in Belgium's squad despite being used wide. He has registered shots in both group games and was involved in the build-up to Belgium's only goal against Egypt. Garcia confirmed he has asked Trossard to be more decisive, and with a platform likely to open up against New Zealand, the Arsenal forward is worth backing to get on the scoresheet at around 5/2.

TIP 05✓ Hit

Double Chance: Away or Draw

Belgium are on a 15-match unbeaten run since March 2025 and require points from this fixture to guarantee Group G qualification. New Zealand are the lowest-ranked side in the tournament. The chances of Belgium leaving Vancouver without at least a point are extremely slim, and Away or Draw covers every scenario short of an all-time upset.

Over 2.5 Goals
5/17

Both of New Zealand's group games have gone over 2.5 goals. A Belgium side averaging 2.25 xG per game, now free to attack with urgency, makes over 2.5 a natural complement to the away win leg without creating a correlated void.

Leandro Trossard
✓ Hit
Anytime Goalscorer
5/2

Adding Trossard as anytime scorer lifts the overall return without overlapping directly with the match result or goals lines. Garcia's backing of Trossard to step up and his run of chances in both group games makes him the best-value goalscorer option from Belgium's attacking roster.
