Arsenal were beaten 3-0 at Brighton last time out, their first defeat of the Premier League season, and the response starts at the Emirates against a Leeds side nobody at the bottom half of the table wants to play right now. Leeds go into Saturday's game unbeaten in five, the division's form side outside the top four, and they have not lost to Arsenal since a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates in May 2022. That run is unlikely to survive the weekend, but Leeds have earned the right to turn up believing it might.

Arsenal sit second in the Premier League on 12 points from five games, four behind leaders Manchester City, having won four of their opening five before the defeat at Brighton. The 3-0 loss ended a run in which they had scored 2.5 goals a game at home and conceded just 0.5, and it was their first defeat in any competition since August.

The response has previous. Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 at home and Aston Villa 1-0 away either side of that Brighton reverse pattern earlier in the season, and their home form remains the foundation: two wins from two at the Emirates this season, scoring eight and conceding just one. Gabriel Magalhães, Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyökeres have carried the attacking burden, with Arsenal averaging 1.6 goals a game and keeping three clean sheets in five.

Leeds have lost the habit of losing. Two wins and three draws from their first five games have them fifth on nine points, level with Brentford, Liverpool and Everton, and they have not been beaten in the league since returning to the top flight. A 4-1 home win over Newcastle in September was the highlight, and they held Brighton and Crystal Palace to draws either side of it.

This is still a trip into the unknown for a newly promoted side with designs on a top-half finish rather than a title challenge. Leeds have failed to score in only one of their five league games but have managed only one goal in three of their last four, and a first win at the Emirates since 2003 would be a result to define their autumn.

Stats for Arsenal v Leeds

  • Arsenal have won nine of the last ten meetings with Leeds, with one draw and no Leeds wins in that sequence.
  • The reverse fixture in January finished Leeds 0-4 Arsenal at Elland Road, and Arsenal won 5-0 at the Emirates in August 2025.
  • Arsenal have scored eight goals and conceded four in five league games this season, with three clean sheets.
  • Leeds are unbeaten in five league games (2W 3D) since returning to the Premier League, their best start to a top-flight season in over two decades.
  • The last ten meetings between these sides have averaged 3.2 goals, with over 2.5 goals landing in six of them.

Form guide ahead of Arsenal v Leeds

Arsenal's WWWWL reads better than the Brighton scoreline suggested and their underlying home numbers, 2.5 goals scored and 0.5 conceded per game at the Emirates, have barely wavered all season. Leeds have the division's most unusual form line, WDDWD, built on resilience rather than goals: only one defeat in all competitions and three draws from their last five. The form guide below says Arsenal are the stronger side, but Leeds' refusal to lose is the detail that could keep this closer than the head-to-head history suggests.

Arsenal v Leeds in the Premier League table

Arsenal are second on 12 points from five games, four adrift of Manchester City but level on points with nobody else in the top four, and a win here keeps the pressure on the league leaders ahead of the October international break. Leeds sit fifth on nine points, only three behind Arsenal having played the same number of games, and a points-per-game rate that puts them firmly in the mix for a top-half finish rather than a relegation fight.

For Arsenal, anything less than three points lets City, and potentially Brighton in third on ten points, open up more daylight at the top. For Leeds, a point or better at the Emirates would be their best result of a promotion campaign that has already outstripped expectations, and would put real distance between themselves and the bottom half.

Head-to-head record: Arsenal v Leeds

Arsenal have won nine of the last ten meetings between these two clubs, with one draw and no Leeds victories in that sample. The pair have averaged 3.2 goals a game across those ten meetings, both teams have scored in four of them (a 40% BTTS rate) and six have gone over 2.5 goals. The most recent meeting, in January, finished Leeds 0-4 Arsenal at Elland Road, and the previous Emirates meeting before that ended 5-0 to the home side.

There is little in that record to suggest this is a rivalry trending the other way. Leeds have not found a way to live with Arsenal's quality in open play in any of the last ten attempts, and the goal difference across the sample, Arsenal have scored heavily in nearly every meeting, points towards a repeat rather than a break in the pattern. The over 2.5 and BTTS markets both look well supported by that history, even if Leeds' defensive form this season argues for a tighter scoreline than some of the recent routs.

Where this fixture is won and lost

Arsenal have averaged 59.4% possession and 1.7 expected goals a game across their last five, against Leeds' 45% possession and 1.56 xG. The gap that matters most is at the other end: Arsenal have conceded only 0.8 expected goals a game at an average of 0.8 actual goals against, while Leeds have shipped 1.29 xG a game despite a lower actual goals-against figure of 0.6, suggesting their defensive record has run slightly ahead of the underlying numbers.

Arsenal also edge the set-piece battle, averaging five corners won to Leeds' 4.4, while conceding fewer corners (3.2 against Leeds' 4.8). If Leeds are going to frustrate Arsenal as they have frustrated other sides this season, it will have to come from defensive discipline rather than control of the ball.

Predicted line-ups for Arsenal v Leeds

Arsenal have used a settled 4-2-3-1 in all five league games so far, but Saliba's absence forces a reshuffle at the back. Leeds have mixed between a back three and a back five, and are likely to stick with the 3-5-2 that has yielded their better recent results.

Arsenal v Leeds betting tips

Arsenal's home record against Leeds, nine wins from the last ten meetings, makes backing the hosts in the main market an easy if short-priced call. The value on this card sits further down, in the goals markets and in a Viktor Gyökeres anytime goalscorer price that looks bigger than it should given Arsenal's home scoring rate of 2.5 a game.

match result: arsenal to win

Arsenal have won nine of the last ten meetings with this fixture and have scored at least four goals in two of the last three at home to Leeds. The Brighton defeat was an outlier rather than a trend, and Leeds' modest away scoring record points to a routine home win.

Correct Score: 3-1

Arsenal have scored three or more in two of their last three home meetings with Leeds, including a 5-0 win last August, and Leeds have found the net in four of their five league games this season. A 3-1 scoreline fits both patterns, Arsenal's home firepower and Leeds' habit of getting on the scoresheet even in defeat.

Over 2.5 Goals: Over

Six of the last ten meetings between these sides have gone over 2.5 goals, with an average of 3.2 goals per meeting across that run. Arsenal are averaging 1.6 goals a game themselves this season and Leeds have shipped goals at both ends of recent fixtures. Over 2.5 at roughly 5/6 is the pick, even though Leeds' tighter recent defensive numbers (0.6 goals conceded per game) are the obvious risk.

Both Teams to Score: No

Leeds have failed to score in only one of their five league games, but Arsenal have kept three clean sheets in five and conceded just 0.8 goals a game. The head-to-head BTTS rate sits at only 40% across the last ten meetings. No in BTTS at around 3/5 backs Arsenal's defensive record over Leeds' attacking resilience.

Anytime Goalscorer: V. Gyökeres

Arsenal have scored 2.5 goals a game at home this season and Gyökeres is the focal point of that attack. Leeds have conceded in four of their five league games, giving him a route to goal even against a defence that has otherwise performed above its underlying numbers.

Draw No Bet: Home

Arsenal have not lost at home to Leeds since 2003 and have won nine of the last ten meetings overall. Draw no bet strips out the draw risk from an unbeaten Leeds side without sacrificing much of the match-result price, making it a safer route into the same outcome.

The foundation leg. Arsenal's home record against Leeds, nine wins in the last ten meetings, pairs naturally with a goals line and a goalscorer leg built around the same attacking strength.

Arsenal winning comfortably at home against a Leeds side that has scored in four of five games this season points towards goals at both ends, complementing the result leg rather than duplicating it.

If Arsenal win and the game goes over 2.5 goals, their main striker getting on the scoresheet is a natural consequence rather than a coincidence, adding value to a builder already leaning on Arsenal's attack.
