Stoke City have discovered form at exactly the right moment. M. Robins's side lost their opening three league games of the season before taking seven points from their next three, a turnaround built on the back of a hectic deadline day that brought in three new faces. "We've picked up seven points in a week which was much needed after a hectic transfer window and everything else that comes with that," he told BBC Radio Stoke. "It's exciting because there are things to do and for me to get my teeth into and the response from the players has been great."

Dionisi, meanwhile, has been managing his own new arrivals. On free-agent striker Myron Boadu, who will not be involved this weekend, he said: "Myron is a good striker. It's important that he's at 100 per cent. I spoke to my staff and, probably before the international break, Myron will be part of the team."

Watford's last six reads two wins, two draws and two losses, with the win over Preston the highlight and back-to-back away defeats to West Brom and Swansea the low point. Stoke's six-game shape is more dramatic, three straight losses to open the campaign followed by two wins and a draw. The surface numbers favour Stoke slightly on recent momentum, but Watford have the better home record of the two, unbeaten at Vicarage Road so far this season, and that is the trend that matters most going into this one.
