Rennes lead Ligue 1 on 16 points, yet the more intriguing story sits just behind them.
Paris Saint Germain and Lyon are both on 14 points, split only by goal difference, and the champions-elect tag that used to hang over Parc des Princes has gone a bit quiet.
PSG have lost at home this season, to Monaco in September, and have only played twice in front of their own fans.
Lyon, meanwhile, arrive with a one-place advantage in the table and the memory of the last visit to the capital, when they won 2-1 in April.
That gives a Monday night in Paris a little more bite than the league position alone would suggest.
PSG's form reads W-W-W-W after a pair of draws and that home defeat, and the last four league outings have brought ten goals.
The oddity is where it has all happened: they have played five of their seven games away from home, winning three and drawing two, and scoring 10 goals on the road against just 4 at the Parc des Princes.
They average two goals a game and have not failed to score once, but they have also let in nine, and only one clean sheet in seven is not the profile of a side that sits comfortably on a lead.
The underlying numbers are strong all the same. PSG average 68.1 per cent possession and 20.86 shots per game, with an expected goals figure of 2.62, so the chances keep coming.
Lyon sit fourth on 14 points from seven games, with a goal difference of plus eight that is the best of any side in the top six.
The defence is the foundation. They have conceded just five times, an average of 0.71 a game, and kept three clean sheets.
Home form has been good, with three wins and a draw and ten goals scored in four games, but the trip to Paris is a different proposition: Lyon have scored only three goals in three away league games.
They lost 2-1 at Lens on 9 October, then beat Nice 2-1 last weekend, so the mood is positive. A win would send them level with Rennes' tally at the top of the table, give or take a game in hand.
Form guide ahead of Paris Saint Germain v Lyon
Over the last seven league games PSG have won four, drawn two and lost one, and Lyon have exactly the same record, with four wins, two draws and one defeat.
The split is in how they got there. PSG have outscored Lyon 14 goals to 13 but conceded nine to Lyon's five, and their recent run is the sharper one, with four straight wins before the current break from the Strasbourg win on 17 October.
Lyon's defeat at Lens a fortnight ago is their only blemish since August, and they have not lost at home.
Surface form therefore favours the hosts a touch, but the defensive numbers say Lyon are the better-organised side.

- PSG have won 4 of their last 7 league games, with 2 draws and 1 defeat, and have scored in every one.

Paris Saint Germain v Lyon in the Ligue 1 table
Lyon are fourth on 14 points from seven games, and PSG are fifth, also on 14 from seven, with a goal difference of plus five against Lyon's plus eight. Both have a game in hand on Rennes, who lead on 16 from eight, and Lille and Monaco are on 15 from eight.
That makes this a straight shoot-out for position. The top three carry Champions League league-stage places, so a win for either side would move them level with Lille and Monaco or ahead of them, and a defeat would leave them looking up at a bunching pack.
The gaps are tiny, with Paris FC also on 14 in sixth and Lens a point back on 13.
With so little separating the sides, a home loss would hurt PSG more than most, given they have already lost one at the Parc des Princes.

LyonHead-to-head record: Paris Saint Germain v Lyon
PSG have won seven of the last ten meetings, Lyon have won two and one has been drawn. The average is 3.4 goals per game, and both teams scored in eight of the ten, an 80 per cent rate. Seven games went over 2.5 goals, which is 70 per cent.
The last meeting was at Parc des Princes on 19 April 2026, when Lyon won 2-1. Before that, PSG won 3-2 in Lyon in November 2025.
The pattern is hard to ignore. These games are open, they are rarely dull, and Lyon have not been a pushover, with scores of 2-3, 2-3 and 2-1 in the three most recent league visits to the Parc des Princes and Groupama Stadium (home and away).
That points to goals and to both sides getting on the scoresheet, which is why BTTS is the cleanest angle here. Even PSG's wins in this fixture have mostly come with a Lyon goal against them, so a clean sheet for either side would be the surprise.
A PSG win with goals at both ends, perhaps by 2-1 or 3-1, would fit the recent script.
Where this fixture is won and lost
The biggest gap is shots. PSG average 20.86 per game with 7.29 on target, while Lyon average 12.57 with 4.86 on target. Possession tells the same tale, 68.1 per cent against 51.7.
The second gap runs the other way: Lyon concede 0.71 goals a game and PSG 1.29, and Lyon have three clean sheets to PSG's one.
So PSG will have the ball, and Lyon will try to make it hurt when they win it back. Lyon concede 6.29 corners a game, to PSG's 1.86, which suggests they are used to sitting deep and defending set pieces.
Expected goals are fairly close at the back, 1.23 against for PSG and 1.26 for Lyon, which tells you PSG's defensive record is a little worse than their chance profile deserves. With four first-choice names missing, though, that may not hold.

Paris Saint Germain v Lyon betting tips
The prices on the match result are short, with PSG at 1/3, so the value is in the goals markets. Both teams to score at 4/7 is the cleanest angle, backed by the head-to-head and the fact that PSG have conceded in six of seven. Over 2.5 goals is 4/11 and a lot shorter, so the better numbers sit in the total of goals and the scoreline.
Both teams to score
PSG have scored in every league game and conceded in six of seven, while Lyon have found the net in six of seven. Eight of the last ten meetings had goals at both ends. You have to feel PSG's shot volume wins it, but not without a goal against.
