Lyon aim to bounce back from PSG defeat

Lyon were beaten 2-0 at Paris Saint Germain on 26 October and now return to a ground where they have been hard to live with. They have won three and drawn one of their four home league games, scoring 10 and conceding three.

The visit of Angers is the sort of fixture that should settle things quickly. Angers sit 14th, have lost four of their eight league games and were hammered 5-2 by Marseille and 5-1 by Brest in October. Lyon, in fifth, will be without five players, but the gap in quality across the pitch is wide.

Lyon's form and context

Lyon have 14 points from eight games, with four wins, two draws and two defeats. Their league goal difference is +6, they have kept three clean sheets and they concede 0.9 goals a game. Their away record is the weak spot: one win, one draw and two defeats on the road, with only three goals scored.

At home it is a different story. They average 2.5 goals per game at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, including a 4-0 win over Rennes on 19 September and a 2-1 win over Nice on 18 October. A fifth-placed side that is a point off Monaco in fourth has every reason to treat this as three points banked.

Angers need to shore up at the back

Angers have 8 points from eight games, with two wins, two draws and four defeats. They scored nine and conceded 15, a goal difference of minus six. Their home form is the problem: one win, one draw and three defeats from five, with nine goals against.

There was one positive last time out. A 0-0 draw with Lorient on 25 October was only their third clean sheet of the season. They are three points above the relegation zone, and a point on the road at a top-five side would be a decent return.

Form guide ahead of Lyon v Angers

Across their last eight league games Lyon have won four, drawn two and lost two, scoring 13 and conceding seven. Angers have won two, drawn two and lost four, scoring nine and conceding 15. Lyon's two defeats came on the road, at Lens and PSG, which flatters their home side. Angers' expected goals against of 1.78 per game backs up what the scoreline shows. Lyon's own attacking numbers are modest, at 0.95 expected goals per game, so the margin may come from home finishing rather than sustained pressure.

Stats for Lyon v Angers

  • Lyon have won eight of their last ten meetings with Angers, with one draw and one Angers win
  • The last meeting finished 0-0 at Stade Raymond-Kopa on 5 April 2026
  • Lyon have scored 10 goals in four home league games this season, 2.5 per game
  • Angers have conceded 15 in eight league games, and have scored only nine
  • Only two of the last ten meetings produced goals at both ends

Lyon v Angers in the Ligue 1 table

Lyon are fifth on 14 points from eight games, one behind Monaco in fourth and level with Nice, who have played one game more. A win would keep them in the hunt for the top four, with Rennes third on 16 points.

Angers are 14th on 8 points from eight. Le Mans and Strasbourg have 7 points each, and Troyes in the relegation places have 5. Defeat would leave Angers only a few points clear of the drop with the gap at the bottom narrowing.

Head-to-head record: Lyon v Angers

Across ten meetings Lyon have eight wins, Angers one and one has been drawn. The average is 2.7 goals a game, 60% of the games have gone over 2.5 and only 20% have seen both sides score. The last meeting was a 0-0 draw at Stade Raymond-Kopa on 5 April 2026. Before that, Lyon won 1-0 at home on 19 September 2025.

The pattern is one-sided, but the goals have dried up lately. The last two meetings produced one goal between them. Lyon's wins have mostly been clean ones, which points towards a home win to nil rather than a shootout. Both teams to score has been rare, and with Angers' scoring rate at 1.1 per game it is hard to see that changing.

Where this fixture is won and lost

The biggest gap is defensive. Lyon concede 0.88 goals per game over their last eight, while Angers concede 1.88. Lyon also put 4.5 shots on target per game to Angers' 3.13.

The flip side is that Lyon give away 6.4 corners per game, more than Angers (5.6), so Angers will get set pieces. They have scored in only five of eight games and failed to score three times, so those chances need converting. If Lyon score first, the game should be over before the interval.

Lyon v Angers betting tips

The value here is in the scoreline rather than the result. Lyon are short for the win, but Angers have scored in only five of eight games and have been blanked in the last two meetings. We are leaning on a home win to nil, with goals from a Lyon attack that has scored 2.5 per game at home.

Our headline tip✓ Hit

Match Result: Lyon to win

Lyon have won eight of ten against Angers and score 2.5 goals per game at home. Angers concede 1.9 goals per game and have failed to score in three of their eight league games. A comfortable home win is the strongest play.

Our predicted scoreLyon 2–0 Angers
✓ Prediction landed
TIP 01 · Correct score✓ Hit

Correct score 2-0

Lyon have kept three clean sheets in eight league games and Angers have failed to score in three of eight. The last two meetings finished 0-0 and 1-0, but Lyon's home scoring rate is strong. Two to nil is the most likely scoreline. The risk is a tight, low-scoring game like April's 0-0.

TIP 02 · Over 2.5 goals✓ Hit

Under 2.5 goals

Lyon's games have gone under 2.5 goals in six of eight this season and Angers' own matches in seven of eight. Only four of Lyon's last eight league games went over 2.5. We rate Under as the better side of the line. The risk is that Angers' leaky defence gives Lyon a three-goal win.

TIP 03 · Both teams to score✓ Hit

Not both teams to score

Both teams have scored in only two of the last ten meetings, a 20% rate. Angers have failed to score in three of eight league games and Lyon have kept three clean sheets. We back No. The risk is Angers' set-piece threat, given Lyon concede 6.4 corners per game.

TIP 04 · Anytime goalscorer✓ Hit

Nuamah to score

Lyon have scored 10 goals at home in four games, and with Openda and Šulc out the goals have to come from elsewhere. Nuamah is among the wide attackers likely to start and to be involved in most of those chances. We back him to score. The risk is that he does not start, since our predicted XI is a projection.

TIP 05 · Over 1.5 goals✓ Hit

Over 1.5 goals

Lyon have scored at least twice in four of their eight league games, and in all four of their home games they scored at least once. Angers have conceded two or more in four of eight. We back Over 1.5. The risk is another 0-0 or 1-0, which has happened in the last two meetings.

This is the anchor. It holds if Lyon score once or twice, which makes it compatible with a Nuamah goal and a clean sheet.

Not both teams to score

Both teams to score
-

Angers have scored in only five of eight games and in two of the last ten meetings. It pairs naturally with a Lyon win, since a home win to nil is our central projection.

Nuamah to score
✓ Hit

With Lyon expected to score once or twice, one goal is likely to come from the wide attackers. Nuamah gives the builder an attacking leg that does not depend on a big margin.
