Neither side will be in a rush to relive the last week or so.
Angers travelled to Stade Brestois on 10 October and came home on the wrong end of a 5-1 beating, the heaviest defeat of their season so far.
Marseille, meanwhile, have spent the autumn on a slide that only stopped at Troyes, where a 2-0 win last Sunday ended a run of four straight defeats.
So this is a meeting between a home side with something to prove and a visiting side who have just remembered how to win.
The last time they met at Stade Raymond-Kopa, Marseille scored five. Angers will not need reminding.
Angers have played six league games and taken seven points from them, winning two, drawing one and losing three.
The goals tell a story of a side who don't score often and leak at the wrong moments. They have scored seven and conceded ten, and eight of those ten came before half-time or in the opening 15 minutes of the second half... actually five came before the 30-minute mark alone.
At home they have won one and lost two from three, scoring just one goal a game. However, they did beat Troyes 2-0 at Stade Raymond-Kopa in September, and they have kept two clean sheets in total.
Their recent numbers are not awful. Over the last six they average 1.57 expected goals for and 1.79 against, which suggests a side playing slightly better than the results show, if still a touch open.
The Troyes win has steadied things, but the away numbers are the worry. Marseille have scored only two goals in three league trips, an average of 0.7 a game, compared with 2.3 a game at home.
They have the better of the ball, averaging 57.3 per cent possession in their last six, and test goalkeepers more often than Angers do with 4.33 shots on target a game against 3.
However, they concede plenty of chances too (2.08 expected goals against per game), so Angers will fancy getting something out of this.

Form guide ahead of Angers v Marseille
Across their last six league games Angers have won two, drawn one and lost three, while Marseille have won two and lost four. On paper that is little to choose between them. Marseille's win came last week and their defeats came against Monaco, Rennes and PSG, hardly a soft run. Angers' run is a mixed bag, a 3-1 win at Auxerre and a 2-0 win over Troyes on one side, a 5-1 loss at Brest on the other. Surface form says level. Underlying numbers lean slightly towards the visitors, who have more shots on target and more of the ball.
Angers v Marseille in the Ligue 1 table
Both sides are in the thick of the congested middle of the table after six games each. Going by their records, Angers have seven points from six (two wins, a draw and three defeats) while Marseille have six from six (two wins and four defeats).
The top of the table is still within sight, with PSG, Lille and Monaco on 14 points, but neither side can afford a poor week.
A home win would lift Angers above Marseille and give them breathing space. A Marseille win would put the visitors ahead of Angers and ease the pressure after a bruising September.

MarseilleHead-to-head record: Angers v Marseille
Marseille have the clear edge over the last 10 meetings, with six wins to Angers' one and three draws. Those games have been busy, averaging 3.7 goals each, with both teams scoring in 70 per cent and over 2.5 goals landing in 70 per cent. The last meeting was Angers 2-5 Marseille at Stade Raymond-Kopa on 17 January 2026, and the one before it was a 2-2 draw at the Orange Velodrome on 29 October 2025.
The pattern is clear, but it may not repeat. Both sides have changed managers this summer, and this season's figures point the other way: only one of Angers' six games and one of Marseille's six have gone over 2.5 goals in their own team's scoring. That leans towards a tighter game than the history suggests, though the head-to-head still says both sides will score. For correct score hunters, a 1-1 or 2-1 looks more likely than another goal festival.
Where this fixture is won and lost
The biggest gap between these sides is on corners. Angers average 7.17 a game in their last six against Marseille's 4.33, which says they are the more direct and set-piece-minded side.
The second gap is on the ball. Marseille average 57.3 per cent possession to Angers' 50.3, and they put more shots on target (4.33 against 3). Possession without punch has been their issue away from home, so Angers' main job is to stay compact and hit them early.
Then there is defensive solidity: Angers concede 1.67 a game and Marseille 1.33. Both sides concede in the first quarter of an hour, so an early goal is a real possibility.

Angers v Marseille betting tips
The value here is in the cover rather than the outright win. Marseille's away goals (two in three games) make a straight win a harder sell, but Angers have taken just seven points from six and the history is lopsided. We have leaned on the visitors not losing, then looked at a tight, scrappy game where both teams get on the scoresheet.
Double Chance: Marseille or draw
Marseille have won six of the last ten meetings and Angers only one, so the visitors not losing is the safest angle. Angers are leaking goals early in games, but Marseille's away scoring is thin enough that a share of the spoils looks very live. You have to feel the draw is a decent chance, so the double chance cover is the sensible price.
