Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says the club are trying to bring Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt to Old Trafford this summer.
The Red Devils have recently announced the signing of Lille centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille in a deal worth over £50million.
But Ten Hag and owners INEOS are keen to continue strengthening the defence following Raphael Varane’s departure.
Reports suggest it may require Man Utd to ship a player out before they can continue their recruitment drive but ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly against Rangers this afternoon, the head coach admitted De Ligt may arrive later in the summer.
Speaking to AD Sportwereld, he said: “It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come.
“I know Matthijs well and I will not deny that. I wanted to sign him two years ago but at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern Munich (from Juventus) but believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process (of targeting signings).”

Following their match in Scotland, the Red Devils will jet out to the US for their pre-season tour.
De Ligt may also be heading Stateside should a deal be agreed in the coming days.
