Harry Kane says it was nice to return to Tottenham and say goodbye to the fans properly this summer.
The England captain’s transfer to Bayern Munich was rushed through late on in the transfer window last season and he did not get the chance to wave goodbye to the match-going supporters.
But he made sure he was there for Bayern’s pre-season match in North London, even coming on for 10 minutes towards the end of the match.
He admitted after the match he should not have played having only just returned from holiday, but wanted to return to the stadium where he became a legend.
Kane even refused to lift the trophy won by Bayern in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, handing the captain’s armband to Joshua Kimmich.
“Everything was really rushed through last year, so we didn’t have a chance [to say goodbye], but it was great way to say thank you to all of them.
Amazing to be back at a place that will always be very special to me. Thanks to everyone for an incredible welcome. Great to get some minutes in the legs and step up the preparation for the season. 🙌 pic.twitter.com/PfiaQtgH0b

“The reception I got was amazing and great to clap them around the pitch after, those who stayed behind, and I will always be thankful for every Spurs fan for the support they’ve given me through my whole career. It’s been incredible.
“I just appreciate them seeing me and me seeing them again.”
Kane was also quizzed on new signing Dominic Solanke and gave a glowing review of his England team-mate.
He added: “Yeah, he should be great. Dom is a great player and plays with high intensity and high speed.
“For sure, he’s going to get chances in this team with the way Ange [Postecoglou] plays. You saw that today, two top teams going at it.
“I think it’s a really good signing. I’ve seen him in the dressing room there and I just wished him all the best and of course I hope he has a great season.”
