Premier League title contenders Liverpool will face Atalanta and seventh-placed West Ham will meet Bayer Leverkusen in the Uefa Europa League quarter-finals.

Should they win, the Reds will play Benfica or Marseille in the semi-finals, while West Ham will take on AC Milan or Roma.

Liverpool hammered Czech opponents Sparta Praha 6-1 in the second leg of their round of 16 tie to record an 11-2 win on aggregate in manager Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge.

West Ham secured an equally comfortable win, thrashing Freiburg 5-0 at home to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit in style.

Atalanta are in the quarter-finals for a third time and reached the Champions League last eight in 2019/20, but the sixth-placed team in Italy’s Serie A will be the underdogs against the second-placed side in England and are on a four-match winless run domestically.

Liverpool won 5-0 at Atalanta in the 2020/21 Champions League group stage, Diogo Jota scoring a hat-trick and Mohamed Salah also netting before La Dea gained revenge by winning 2-0 at Anfield a week later.

Leverkusen are widely considered the most dangerous team in the draw alongside Liverpool, standing 10 points above second-placed Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga.

Xabi Alonso’s side extended their remarkable unbeaten run to 37 matches in all competitions in their round of 16 tie against Qarabag, Patrik Schick scoring twice in second-half stoppage time in the second leg to send them through 5-4 on aggregate in an astonishing finale.

The first legs of the quarter-finals will take place on April 11, with the return matches taking place a week later.

Uefa are likely to confirm the exact schedule for the games later on Friday.

Semi-final matches take place on May 2 and 9 to decide a potentially all-English final at Dublin Arena on May 22.

Liverpool’s last European trophy was the 2018/19 Champions League. West Ham won last season’s Europa Conference League.
