Reigning champions Manchester City will play Real Madrid and Premier League leaders Arsenal have been drawn against Bayern Munich in the Uefa Champions League quarter-finals.

The English title contenders will meet in the semi-finals if they win their last-eight fixtures.

City breezed past Copenhagen 6-2 on aggregate in the round of 16, while the Gunners beat Porto 4-2 on penalties at Emirates Stadium after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

Madrid are the most successful team in the history of the competition, winning it 14 times, and the current Liga leaders lost 5-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals last season to City, who did the damage by winning the second leg 4-0 at home.

Madrid beat City in an epic semi-final in 2021/22, triumphing 6-5 on aggregate courtesy of Karim Benzema’s extra-time goal in the second leg.

Bayern are having a difficult season by their trophy-laden standards, sitting 10 points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Roten manager Thomas Tuchel, who won the Champions League in 2020/21 with former club Chelsea, announced in February that this will be his final campaign in charge amid a patchy run of form.

The six-time European champions overcame a deficit from their away first leg to beat Lazio 3-1 on aggregate in the round of 16.

Arsenal are in the last eight for the first time in 14 years. Their previous appearance in the Champions League ended with a 10-2 aggregate thrashing by Bayern in the 2016/17 round of 16.

Mikel Arteta’s side are level on points with Europa League quarter-finalists Liverpool at the top-flight summit.

City, who host Arsenal in their first match following the international break on March 31, are a point behind the top two.

The Champions league semi-final draw was made directly after the quarter-final procedure, potentially pitting Arsenal and City against each other and ensuring they will play Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain or Barcelona if they reach the final, which will take place at Wembley Stadium on June 1.

The quarter-final first legs will be held on April 9 and 10, with the return matches a week later. The semi-finals will start on April 30 and May 1 and conclude on May 7 and 8.

Uefa are likely to confirm the fixtures later on Friday.
