Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will end an exile from football which has lasted more than 14 months by joining Fiorentina on a one-year deal, according to a report.
Two-time Uefa Europa League winner De Gea, who made his last professional appearance when he played for United in the FA Cup final in May 2023, has a verbal agreement with the Italian club and medical checks booked, Fabrizio Romano has said.
The transfer reporter added that De Gea’s contract with last season’s Europa Conference League finalists will have an optional extra year.

De Gea salary, contract
De Gea is likely to receive a considerably lower salary with I Viola than he did during his 12 years at United.
The ex-Atletico Madrid regular was widely reported to have earned £375,000 per week as part of his final contract at Old Trafford, making him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world.
He officially left United in July 2023 after failing to agree new terms which were reportedly significantly reduced.

De Gea career stats
Now 33, De Gea has the distinction of being one of the few active players involved in United’s last Premier League title triumph.
Sir Alex Ferguson made De Gea his most regular goalkeeper during the legendary manager’s final campaign in charge in 2012-13.
More trophies awaited De Gea, including the FA Cup in 2016, the Europa League in 2017 – which he also won with Atleti in 2010 – and two EFL Cup wins.
The second of De Gea’s two Premier League Golden Glove awards for the most clean sheets came in 2022-23.
Spain handed him the last of his 45 caps in 2020, although he was still a member of their squad until the following year.
La Roja called De Gea up for every major tournament between the 2014 Fifa World Cup and Euro 2020.
