Ipswich have completed the signing of Luton forward Chiedozie Ogbene for a reported £8million.

The Republic of Ireland international has signed a four-year deal at Portman Road and becomes their 10th signing since gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Ogbene joined Luton from Rotherham 12 months ago and impressed in the top flight despite the Hatters’ relegation, scoring five goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.

“I’m very excited and feel lucky to have this opportunity to play in the Premier League again,” said Ogbene.

“I’ve had very positive chats with the manager [Kieran McKenna] and for someone to believe in me, that I could play at this level again, means a lot to me and my family.

“I know what he wants from me and the role I will play and I’m here to be a positive addition to the squad as we look to achieve our goals.”

Ipswich were keen to add another forward to their ranks after winger Wes Burns was sidelined with a hamstring injury in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on the opening day.

It takes their spending to almost £100m as they bid to avoid an immmediate drop back down to the Championship under Kieran McKenna.

The Tractor Boys are also in talks with Chelsea to wrap up a deal for striker Armando Broja before Friday’s transfer deadline.

McKenna said: “We’ve spoken to him, I think that’s well known. There’s ongoing discussions with Chelsea but I’ve not been privy to them over the last 24 hours.

“We’ll see if it’s the right thing for the club and the player.”

Ipswich travel to AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before hosting Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
