I hate them all – Ratcliffe can’t tip a title winner from Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal

Manchester United minority owner Jim Ratcliffe says he cannot chose a preferred winner of the Premier League title out of Liverpool, Manchester City or Arsenal as he “hates them all”.

Ineos chairman Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7 per cent stake in United last month and has already started making moves, bringing in Omar Berrada as chief executive from Manchester City while they remain in talks with Newcastle United over sporting director Dan Ashworth.

On the field, United remain some way off the leading sides, sitting sixth in the Premier League table, although they did enjoy a morale-boosting 4-3 win over Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.

The title is being fought out by three teams separated by just a single point with 10 games to go but Ratcliffe could not name the one he wanted to win out.

He told Geraint Thomas’ Cycling Club podcast: “I hate them all. We’ve got Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal…I don’t know, they are all the enemy, I couldn’t possibly choose.”

Thomas indicated he would like it to be Arsenal and Ratcliffe did see the positives in that scenario, adding: “It’d be good for [head coach Mikel] Arteta.

“It’d be good for him because he’s done really well and Arsenal have been patient with him which is nice as well.”

Ratcliffe is confident that if he can get the right structures in place at Old Trafford then the results will follow.

He said: “You have to believe with Manchester United, if we get all the details right, all the right people in the right boxes, doing the right things in the right environment, that sporting elite environment that the results will drop out the bottom.

“Those things are not right at Manchester United today as we’ve said very clearly.

“It’s not a light switch, it’s a much longer road to travel because there’s so many aspects to it.”
