Fiorentina general manager Joe Barone remains in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest, which led to the Viola’s Serie A game against Atalanta being postponed.
Barone fell ill at the team hotel shortly before Fiorentina’s scheduled clash with La Dea in Bergamo on Sunday and was rushed to hospital as the game was called off.
Later on Sunday, Fiorentina said Barone was in a “critical but stable” condition at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

On Monday, the club offered a further update on Barone’s condition, saying in a statement: “ACF Fiorentina announces that Joe Barone remains hospitalised in the cardiac intensive care unit at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and in a critical condition following a cardiac arrest.
“Joe’s vital functions are being supported by artificial mechanical support techniques. No prognosis has been set.
“The Barone family, the Commisso family and the whole of Fiorentina thank San Raffaele and all of Professor Alberto Zangrillo’s team for the work they have done since Joe was hospitalised.”

In a second press release issued later on Sunday, Fiorentina said: “The Barone family, the Commisso family and all of Fiorentina would like to thank the Lega Serie A, Atalanta and the FIGC for the sympathy and sensitivity they have shown towards Fiorentina and their General Manager Joe Barone during this incredibly challenging time.”
