Eddie Howe has branded Anthony Gordon as “integral” to Newcastle and has shut the door on the England international leaving this summer.
Reports have linked the 23-year-old to Liverpool, despite his past links to Everton.
There was concern from Newcastle fans that they may have to sell one of their star players to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
But they were able to avoid that by selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for over £50million.
Howe is now confident of keeping hold of Gordon and did not play down how important he is to the team.
Speaking during the club’s pre-season tour, he said: “He’s such an important player for us, we didn’t want to lose anybody.

“Why would we want to lose our best players? We fought really hard to make the right decisions.
“In those last few weeks, it was very, very difficult. He’s an integral part of what we’re doing.
“I’m confident he is OK (following the rumours about a potential sale). I think you can only judge Anthony on what he has given Newcastle on the pitch. He’s been committed.
“We’ve had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative.
“He’s always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle and I want to make that clear to all our supporters”
