The six nominees for the 2023-24 PFA Player of the Year award have been revealed.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is in contention to win the award for second successive year after scoring 27 goals last season as he claimed another title.

The Norwegian is on the six-man shortlist alongside team-mates Phil Foden and Rodri as well as Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, Chelsea forward Cole Palmer and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

Foden was named Premier League Player of the Season after scoring 19 league goals for Pep Guardiola’s men and becoming the youngest player to win the title six times.

Rodri has followed on from winning Euro 2024 this summer with Spain with another nomination for his influential displays in the heart of City’s midfield.

Palmer has also been recognised after a stunning breakthrough campaign after swapping City for Chelsea in which he had 33 goal involvements.

Odegaard was similarly influential for Arsenal, registering eight goals and eight assists as the Gunners missed out on the title by two points.

There is also recognition for Aston Villa striker Watkins, who scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists as Unai Emery’s men reached the Champions League for the first time.

Chelsea and City dominate women’s award

The women’s shortlist is made up entirely of players from either Chelsea or Manchester City.

it includes Blues forward Lauren James alongside team-mates Niamh Charles and Erin Cuthbert, while Khadija Shaw, Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp feature from City.

The award winners will be announced on Tuesday, 20 August.
