Dani Olmo: Same again for Spain against England

Dani Olmo doesn’t foresee any changes to Spain’s gameplan when they take on England in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.

Spain have been the best side at the tournament and go into the Berlin showpiece as favourites to win the trophy for a record fourth time.

Luis de la Fuente’s team have been solid at the back and have wing duo Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal to provide their attacking spark.

Olmo, who has scored three goals in Germany despite starting the tournament on the bench, said at a press conference this morning: “If it’s working, why change it?

“We are doing well, we have our weapons and, while it’s clear we have to do different things and new things because as the coach says it can always be improved, we are preparing in the same way for the final.”

Spain required extra-time to edge out Germany and also were pushed by France in a tense semi-final.

“We have suffered,” added Olmo. “The match against Germany was not easy with extra-time and France was close to being a draw as well. We had those experiences that have made us where we are now.”

Olmo may have club issues to consider as well over the weekend with his contract at RB Leipzig containing a £50million release clause that expires on Monday.

The 26-year-old is a reported target for clubs in England and Spain but he is doing his utmost to focus on Sunday’s game.

He said: “We’ll see. I don’t want to discuss these things now. It is being looked after by people in whom I have total trust. I just want to think about the final and to win it.”
