Cole Palmer: Chelsea contract ‘extended by two years until 2033’

Cole Palmer’s outstanding first season at Chelsea has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension until June 2033, according to multiple reports.

Only Erling Haaland scored more than the 22 goals the midfielder contributed in his breakthrough season in the Premier League, netting 25 times and contributing 15 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.

Haaland is one of Palmer’s rivals for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year honour, which will be awarded on August 20 and could be the 22-year-old’s second individual accolade of the year after being named Chelsea Player of the Season.

Cole Palmer stats

The Blues paid an initial £40 million to Palmer’s boyhood club, Manchester City, for his services in September 2023, as well as £2.5m in potential add-ons.

Palmer had made 19 top-flight appearances for City and his extravagant success during an underwhelming Chelsea campaign earned the Uefa Euro Under-21 champion a first call-up to the senior Three Lions squad in November 2023.

His irresistible form, which included successive hat-tricks against Manchester United and Everton in April – the latter part of a four-goal haul – sent Palmer to Euro 2024, where he set up Ollie Palmer’s 90th-minute winner against the Netherlands in the semi-finals after both players had come on as late substitutes.

The newcomer also equalised with a superb strike after being introduced during England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final.

Cole Palmer salary, weekly wage

Palmer’s gross salary on his existing deal at Chelsea is £3.9m before bonuses or £75,000 per week, according to Capology.

Those figures put him well below the top 10 earners at the club, the website says, with forwards Romelu Lukaku and Raheem Sterling reportedly leading the way on £325,000 per week.

As Chelsea’s best player and runaway top scorer last season, Palmer’s new terms are certain to make him one of the highest-paid players at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fixtures, schedule

Chelsea host Palmer’s former club when City are their visitors in their Premier League opener on Sunday (4.30pm BST).

They will then host Portuguese club Braga or Swiss side Servette in the first leg of a tie to reach this season’s Europa Conference League group stage.
