Wilder demands fight from Sheffield United ahead of Burnley clash

-

Chris Wilder is hoping Sheffield United can take their relegation fight “down to the wire” ahead of a must-win game against fellow strugglers Burnley on Saturday.

The Blades sit bottom of the Premier League, 10 points from safety with just six games remaining. It looks a forlorn situation but Wilder is demanding some pride from his players to avoid gong down with a whimper.

“That is our aim and that is the feeling [to stay up],” he said. “That is what I feel regarding the group and the football club, as well.

“We want to take it down to the wire and we understand the importance of the game. I am not looking ahead, all full focus is on Saturday. That comes off the back of me managing over 1,000 games. We are in a decent place in terms of the feeling of it all.”

United will be without two key players – Jason Bogle and Jack Robinson – through injury against Burnley.

Wilder added: “That’s a blow for us. That’s been a difficult situation to deal with because they’re two influential players in the group.

“Jadon has been one of our most influential players, because of the way he has gone about his business in the Premier League, so we are disappointed.

“They are both ankle ligament injuries by falling. Jadon fell and we expected him to get back up and he didn’t. Same with Jack Robinson – he has a header and falls awkwardly. Those soft-tissue injuries are something we have to get over.”
