West Ham youngster Earthy discharged from hospital after suffering head injury

West Ham midfielder George Earthy has been discharged from hospital after suffering a sickening head injury on his Premier League debut against Fulham, the club have confirmed.

Nineteen-year-old Earthy came on for his Premier League bow in the second half of Sunday’s game at the London Stadium, which Fulham won 2-0 courtesy of Andreas Pereira’s brace.

He was substituted in stoppage time, however, after a nasty clash of heads with team-mate Edson Alvarez.

The teenager required six minutes of treatment and received oxygen before being carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

Hammers boss David Moyes subsequently said Earthy was “awake” and would undergo further assessment in hospital, but the club confirmed he had been discharged on Monday.

West Ham said the midfielder will now follow Football Association and Premier League concussion guidelines in a statement.

Performance director Richard Collinge said: “George is back home and we will continue to monitor him over the coming days as he completes the graduated return to play programme.”

The club also thanked their medical staff, as well as their counterparts at Fulham and pitch-side rescue team Medics24, for their swift response to the incident.
