Trabzonspor fined and hit with six-game fan ban after Fenerbahce riot

Trabzonspor have been fined almost £75000 and ordered to play their next six home games behind closed doors following the violence that marred their home game against Fenerbahce on March 17.

Home fans poured on to the field in the dying moments of Fener’s 3-2 win in Trabzon, attacking visiting players and brawling with security staff.

The Turkish Football Federation today handed out a six-game stadium ban for fans while Trabzonspor coach Egemen Korkmaz was hit with a one-match sanction that prevents him from entering the dressing room and dug-out.

Fenerbahce players Irfan Can Egribayat and Jayden Oosterwolde were given one-match bans but, perhaps surprisingly, Bright Oyasi-Samuel and Michy Batshuayi were not punished despite footage showing them fighting home fans.

Fener were contemplating withdrawing from the Turkish Super Leg in protest at last month’s events but yesterday decided to remain in the competition.
