Nottingham Forest set to discover PSR fate following Premier League charge

Nottingham Forest will reportedly discover the outcome of a hearing into their alleged breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules next week.

In January, Forest were charged with breaking the Premier League’s financial rules during a four-year assessment period culminating in the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Everton joined Forest in being charged, having already received a 10-point deduction – reduced to six on appeal – for a separate breach in the period ending in 2021-22.

Forest face a possible points deduction if they are found to have exceeded the Premier League’s upper loss limit, which is usually £105million every three seasons but is reduced to £61m in Forest’s case due to their time outside the top flight.

A hearing regarding Forest’s case was held earlier this month, and widespread reports on Sunday suggested the outcome will become public in the coming days.

Forest remain just three points clear of the relegation zone, having conceded an 89th-minute equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Luton Town.

Forest signed 22 new players upon their promotion from the Championship in 2022, before completing another 16 signings this season.

They are believed to have based their case around the £45m sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham, which went through after the accounting deadline for 2022-23 had passed.

Forest believe selling Johnson later in the transfer window was within the spirit of the rules, as holding out allowed them to receive a larger fee.
