Nottingham Forest: Ashley Young teases fans with cruel social media message

Ashley Young has taken to social media to rub salt in the wounds of Nottingham Forest fans after Everton scored a 2-0 win over their relegation rivals at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The clash on Merseyside has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons after Forest released a statement criticising VAR operator Stuart Attwell who denied the visitors three penalties.

Consultant and former referee Mark Clattenburg also got involved with the drama, releasing a column openly criticising Attwell as a Luton Town fan and suggesting he should never have been picked to work on the match.

Forest’s actions have sparked a lot of backlash, including from pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, who believe the club should be punished for their actions.

Young has now added fuel to the fire and the 38-year-old was at the centre of the action on the pitch.

He could have been penalised on all three major incidents in the match, twice for late challenges and another for handball.

But the former Manchester United man escaped any punishment and helped lift the Toffees away from the Tricky Trees and one step closer to safety in the Premier League.

On the X platform, Young posted a screenshot of the song ‘Cry Me a River’ by Justin Timberlake with the caption “Old Skool Tunes For Today 😉 😉.”

Naturally, the post sparked some spiky replies from Forest fans but Young also received a lot of support from some faithful Evertonians.

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil were enough for the home side to take all three points – with Jordan Pickford making an incredible save at 1-0 to keep his side ahead.

The win lifts Everton five points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand.
