David Moyes will leave West Ham by mutual consent when his contract expires at the end of the season, with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui lined up to take his place.
Moyes’ position has been the subject of debate throughout the season, despite the Scot leading the Hammers to the Europa League quarter-finals one year after winning the Europa Conference League.
The former Manchester United and Everton boss claimed he had a new contract offer on the table midway through the season but said he would not make a final decision on his future until the end of the campaign.

On Monday, widespread reports claimed Lopetegui had agreed to take charge ahead of 2024-25, after Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim admitted to holding talks with the club last month.
Moyes’ departure was subsequently confirmed in a club statement, with joint-chairman David Sullivan thanking him for overseeing a “period of great progress and success”.
“David has been an absolute professional to work with and he will leave with our greatest respect and good wishes,” Sullivan added.
“He deserves to be held in the highest esteem for the service he has given to West Ham United, and we wish him every success in the future.
“By making this announcement now, it allows David to get the send-off he deserves from the West Ham supporters and for us all to show our appreciation to him at our final home fixture of the season against Luton Town on Saturday.”

Moyes initially spent six months at the London Stadium between November 2017 and May 2018, overseeing 13th-placed Premier League finish, before returning in December 2019.
He led the Irons to safety in 2019-20 before they finished sixth in 2020-21 and seventh the following campaign. They then came 14th last term while going all the way in Europe, and currently sit ninth with two games remaining in 2023-24.
“I have enjoyed four and a half brilliant years at West Ham, and the club is in a stronger position than when I returned back in 2019,” Moyes told the club’s website.
“When I joined West Ham for a second time, the club was one place above the relegation zone, and it has been a terrific journey to have achieved three consecutive seasons in Europe.
“I have really enjoyed working with everyone at West Ham, and I would like to thank the board for giving me the opportunity to manage this great club.
“I wish my eventual successor, the directors, the players, the staff, the fans, and everybody at West Ham, all the very best for the future.”
The club said the process to recruit Moyes’ successor was under way, with an announcement to follow in due course.
Lopetegui has been out of work since leaving Wolves on the eve of the Premier League season, having led the Molineux club to safety in 2022-23 before becoming disillusioned with a lack of transfer activity.
