Toni Kroos’ expected return to the Germany squad was confirmed today but there were still plenty of surprises in Julian Nagelsmann’s selection for the forthcoming games against France and the Netherlands.
World Cup-winner Kroos had already stated his desire to come out of his self-imposed international exile ahead of the European Championship that Germany will host this summer, and the Real Madrid midfielder was named in the 26-man party.

The squad includes six new faces with three from Bundesliga high-flyers Stuttgart – Deniz Undav, Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Mittelstädt.
They are joined by Heidenheim defender Jan-Niklas Beste, Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier and Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic.
Manuel Neuer is recalled after an injury lay-off while Robin Koch is back after a three-year absence. Leroy Sane is suspended.

Germany play France in Lyon on Saturday, March 23 before hosting the Netherlands in Frankfurt three days later.
