Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has revealed the first time he realised the club’s fans were the best in the Premier League.
The former Bournemouth head coach has been trusted with leading the Magpies into their new era since the Saudi Public Investment Fund took over from Mike Ashley in 2021 and he has relived the day he walked through the door on Tyneside.

Howe, 46, guided Newcastle to safety in his first season in charge despite the club sitting 19th when he took over.
There was plenty of positivity off the pitch with the new ownership but on it there were serious problems with a squad that needed a major overhaul.
It was not an easy task but Howe has flourished at St James’ Park, guiding the Toon Army to the Champions League last season.
They are in the mix for a European finish again this season and have made some brilliant additions in Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Despite the difficulties, Howe has felt the support from day one and loves the feeling of togetherness the club embodies.
Speaking on The Overlap, he said: “Instantly, when I came to Newcastle, I felt at home and happy.
“You never quite know when you go to a new club if you’ll fit. I felt that instant connection. I felt it from day one.
“When we first came to the club, you could see the dedication of everybody. They [the fans] were camping out at the training ground to see us on our first day!
“You’re turning up and thinking ‘what, people are waiting for us?’ We were getting in at 6.30am and there was loads.
“I thought ‘Wow, people are crazy for this football club’. We needed to try and generate that support in a positive way.
“The biggest compliment I can say to everyone connected with Newcastle is, since we’ve been here, home and away they’ve given us so much.
“The feeling that we’re stronger together is so clear here. The crowd is such a powerful force and the people give so much for their club.
“It’s a great area to live in, I’ve loved it. It’s football, football, football. Everything is about Newcastle.”
