Aston Villa v Chelsea: Match Preview

Aston Villa look to further cement their place in the top four with a victory over Chelsea on Saturday.

Despite being six points clear of Tottenham in fifth, Unai Emery’s side have played two games more.

Securing another three points will keep the gap between them if Spurs win or draw against Arsenal earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are heading into the match after being knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-finals stage and conceding five away at The Emirates on Tuesday.

The Blues will be expected to respond and put up a fight away at Villa Park.

Match details

Coming off of a great run of results, Emery’s side have won four of their last five games in the league, with their only loss coming against the current champions, Manchester City.

The loss away from home for Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended an eight-game unbeaten run in the league.

A side low on confidence and looking unlikely to secure a spot in Europe next season, can Mauricio Pochettino motivate his players to go again, or will Emery’s side take advantage and make it five wins from six?

Ahead of the match, Villa find themselves in fourth place. A win would put them within five points of Liverpool if they were to lose in the lunchtime kick-off against West Ham United.

Chelsea are, for now, maintaining ninth place in the table. They could go eighth with a win and if other results go their way.

Expected Line-ups

The home side can welcome back Douglas Luiz to their side after serving a two-match ban.

Nicolo Zaniolo is a doubt for the tie after picking up a muscle injury.

Chelsea are without several long-term absentees, however expect Cole Palmer to be back in the starting 11 after recovering from an illness that kept him out of the match at Arsenal.

Enzo Fernandes will not feature again this season after having surgery.
