The 38-year-old returned to his boyhood club – where he started his career – for one season and departs having played 37 times in all competitions last term.

Sevilla had a poor LaLiga campaign, finishing 14th, but Ramos did score seven times.

He made his first debut for the club back in 2004, before moving to Real Madrid a year later.

A statement from the club said: “Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not stay next season after fulfiling his dream of returning to the club where he came through the academy before making his international debut.

“Ramos made 37 appearances this season, scoring on seven occasions.

“The Club wishes to thank Sergio for the commitment, leadership and dedication that he has demonstrated this season, and wishes him the best for future.

“Sergio Ramos will bid farewell tomorrow at 11:00 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, accompanied by Club President Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco.”

Ramos has been linked with a move to MLS side San Diego FC, who will make their debut in the competition in 2025.

He would join former LaLiga stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets Stateside.
