Bayern Munich v Real Madrid: Match Preview

-

Bayern Munich host Real Madrid in the first leg of what could be a blockbuster tie of a Champions League semi-final.

Thomas Tuchel and his side will be hoping to finish the season on a high with the German leaving the club at the end of the season.

Bayern have not won the competition since 2020 and knocked out Arsenal in the quarter-final stage to be within touching distance of the final at Wembley.

Their opponents also knocked out an English side in the quarter-finals of the competition, sending current holders Manchester City crashing out.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side required penalties to seal the win and are well on their way to securing a 15th European title.

As things stand, Real are also on the verge of winning La Liga in what has been a stand-out season for the Spanish side.

Match details

Tuchel’s side have lost just one of their last 24 home games in the competition and are unbeaten in the last 15. They come into this first leg unbeaten in three.

His side missed out on winning the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years as Bayern Leverkusen stormed to secure the first in the club’s history.

Madrid are unbeaten in their last 10 in the Champions League this season.

Only once have they had a longer winning streak in the competition, back in the 2016/17 season when they went 11 unbeaten and won.

The first leg of the semi-final match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid takes place on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024.

Kick-off is 8pm at the Allianz Arena and can be watched live on TNT Sports 1 or via the Discovery+ app or website.

Expected Line-ups

Bayern will look to welcome back Alphonso Davies, who missed the second leg against Arsenal in the quarter-final due to suspension.

Konrad Laimer and Matthijs de Ligt are doubts after sustaining injuries over the weekend, alongside Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane. Kingsley Coman is unavailable.

Madrid have an almost fully fit squad heading into the tie, with just Dani Carvajal set to miss the tie due to being suspended.
