Former Barcelona and Brazil striker Romario could be set for a playing comeback at the age of 58.
Romario is president at Rio de Janeiro-based club America but has also registered himself as a player for the forthcoming season that gets under way next month.

He has said he will not play a league game for the second tier club but hopes, at some point, to feature alongside his son, recent signing Romarinho.
Writing on Instagram, Romario said: “I’m not going to compete in the championship, but rather play a few games for the team of my heart and make another dream come true, playing alongside my son. What do you think?”

Romario has not played competitively since 2009, the same year as when he assumed the presidency at America.
He was a fearsome player in his pomp. Romario made his name at Vasco da Gama before going to Europe and starring for PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona.
He moved back to Brazil to join Flamengo in 1995 before a nomadic career that saw spells in Qatar, Australia and the United States.
His contribution to Brazil winning the World Cup in 1994 saw him named the FIFA World Player of the Year.
