Newcastle v Tottenham: Match Preview

-

The race for the European places continues this weekend when Tottenham travels to Newcastle at the 12:30 kick-off on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s side may have missed the chance for a consecutive season in the Champions League; however, European qualification is still within their reach. Currently sitting in 8th, the Magpies are just two points behind Manchester United and one behind West Ham. A win on Saturday would give them a boost heading into the season’s final games.

Ange Postecoglu and Tottenham got back into the top four after Sunday’s victory over Nottingham Forest and are in control of whether or not they can secure Champions League qualification. However, still, to play the top three teams, any dropped points could see 5th-place Aston Villa, only behind Spurs on goal difference, take their place.

The visitors are heading into the match with 3 wins from their last 5, while the hosts have just 2 wins and have lost their previous 2 fixtures.

Match details

The visitors could be in for a long afternoon, with Newcastle having scored 14 goals in their last five games at St James’ Park. Alexander Isak has scored 5 goals in his last five, with Anthony Gordon also a threat to the Spurs backline.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have won just one of their last six away games. They will be hoping captain Heung-Min Son will cause danger and add to his 15-goal tally for the season.
