Everton v Liverpool: Match Preview

Jurgen Klopp’s final Merseyside derby takes place on Wednesday as his Liverpool side head to Goodison Park.

They face an Everton side fresh off of a controversial victory against Nottingham Forest, which saw them win 2-0.

The Toffees have almost secured Premier League safety and will be heading into the derby confident of getting a result despite being without some key players.

The visitors know that any slip-up in results now would mean their race for the title is well and truly over, and with the manager departing at the end of the season, a victory in the timeless derby would be warmly welcomed.

However, such is the history of the Merseyside derby, it is an unpredictable 90 minutes ahead for both.

Match details

Everton have not won in the fixture since 2021, when they won their first away Premier League derby since 1999.

Liverpool have won four of the last six meetings since then, with one result ending in a 0-0 draw.

The Reds have the chance to go top with a win at Goodison, should Arsenal lose or draw with Chelsea on Tuesday.

A win for Everton would move them three points closer to remaining in the Premier League next season, bringing them closer to Brentford who occupy 15th place.

Expected Line-ups

The visitors have an almost fully fit squad heading into the match, with just Joel Matip, Ben Doak, and Thiago Alcantara absent.

It is likely Klopp will recall Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, among others, after they were rested last time out.

The hosts remain without Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson, and Lewis Dobbin. Beto is also in doubt after sustaining a head injury away at Forest.
