Taylor and Oliver to represent England at Euro 2024

Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver have been included on the list of referees that will officiate at this summer’s European Championship.

The news will come as a welcome boost for Taylor, who has been in the news over the past couple of days for his performance in Sunday’s game between Everton and Nottingham Forest.

Taylor failed to award three penalties to Forest, with VAR Stuart Attwell also declining to intervene, prompting a furious response from the East Midlands club.

They initially tweeted within minutes of the final whistle to point out they flagged Attwell was a fan of Forest’s relegation rivals Luton before another statement yesterday attempted to row back on any perceived accusation of a lack of impartiality.

Eighteen referees have been selected by UEFA, including Argentinian Facundo Tella, who will be involved as part of a deal between the European confederation and its South American equivalent Conmebol.

Roberto Rosetti, UEFA managing director of refereeing, said: “Euro 2024 is the pinnacle of European national team football with the best teams competing and that’s why we have selected the best referees to officiate these matches.

“All chosen referees have performed consistently to the highest standards in Uefa’s top competitions, and also in their domestic competitions. They have prepared exceptionally well to be in this position and we have full confidence in them to show their quality at the final tournament.”
