Kane links up with England despite injury scare

-

Harry Kane has joined up with the England squad for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium despite suffering an ankle injury, Bayern Munich have confirmed.

Kane hurt his left ankle during Bayern’s 5-2 Bundesliga victory over Darmstadt on Saturday, being withdrawn in the 82nd minute after appearing to collide with the frame of the goal.

The striker had earlier provided a goal and an assist, teeing up Jamal Musiala for Bayern’s first goal before scoring with a diving header on the stroke of half-time.

Kane’s goal was his 31st of the season in the Bundesliga – his most in a single league campaign and the most ever scored by a player in their first season in Germany’s top flight.

The sight of Kane being withdrawn will have been a major cause for concern for Gareth Southgate, with this month’s friendlies representing England’s final fixtures before he names his squad for Euro 2024.

However, Bayern confirmed Kane had set off for international duty on Sunday, saying in a statement: “Harry Kane injured his left ankle in FC Bayern’s 5-2 win at Darmstadt.

“The striker has still travelled to international duty with England and will be treated by the team doctors there, in close consultation with the FC Bayern medical department.”

England face Brazil at Wembley Stadium next Saturday before taking on Belgium three days later.

The Three Lions are then next in action against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland in early June before heading to Germany for the Euros.
