Will Still leaves Reims

Will Still has left Reims – putting several English clubs on alert.

Still became the youngest coach in Europe’s top-five leagues in October 2022 when, as a 30-year-old, he took over at the State Auguste-Delaune.

Immediate success followed as he led the club on a 17-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 that moved them up the table to 11th.

A strong start this season saw his stock rise further before a run of just two wins in their last 14 games has seen them slip to 11th.

A club statement read: “Following a meeting held this morning between president Jean-Pierre Caillot, director general Mathieu Lacour and head coach Will Still, it was agreed by mutual agreement that the two parties would not continue together next season.

“In view of this decision and in order to allow Stade de Reims to move serenely towards the next fiscal year, it was decided that Will Still and his deputy Nicolas Still would leave their respective roles today.”

Still added: “I thank Stade de Reims, president Caillot and Mathieu Lacour for giving me this unique opportunity and for supporting me throughout my journey here. I will be eternally grateful to Stade de Reims as well as all the people involved directly or indirectly with the club.

“I thank in particular all the players with whom I was able to work, all the technical, performance, analytical and medical staff as well as the stewards, but also and especially all the supporters of this great club.”

Still, who was born in Belgium to English parents, has been linked with West Ham, the club he supported as a boy, should David Moyes not sign a new deal.

He was also interviewed by Sunderland in December prior to their disastrous appointment of Michael Beale.
