Atalanta v Liverpool: Match Preview

-

Liverpool must overcome a 3-0 deficit tonight in their Europa League quarter-final second leg in Italy if they wish to continue in the competition.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has left themselves an almighty mountain to climb after conceding 3 goals at Anfield last week.

This was closely followed by another disappointing result in the Premier League as they suffered a surprise 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace.

With The Reds looking unlikely to be able to secure the league title this season, all eyes are now on the Europa League.

Match details

Atalanta took advantage of a subpar Liverpool performance to dominate the fixture and take a 3-0 lead back home.

Gian Piero Gasperini and his side will be heading into the fixture well aware that there has never been an instance of a team overturning a three-goal deficit away from home to win a Europa League knockout tie.

To do so, Liverpool would need to make history at the Gewiss Stadium.

Expected Line-ups

The away side are without Thiago Alcantara, Ben Doak and Joel Matip, as well as Conor Bradley after limping off in the defeat to Palace.

After returning on the weekend, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Alisson are all back in contention to feature in the starting 11.

Atalanta has a fully fit side ready to go and will only be missing centre-back Giorgio Scalvini.

Key Players

Gianluca Scamacca caused havoc for Liverpool back at Anfield last week and will be out for a repeat of the same tonight with the backing of his home crowd.
