Championship side Burnley are closing in on the appointment of Scott Parker as their new head coach, according to the BBC.

The 43-year-old has been out of work since March 2023 after being sacked by Belgian side Club Brugge, but is now nearing a return in England.

Parker – who previously played for Fulham, Tottenham, West Ham and Chelsea – has led both Fulham and Bournemouth from the Championship into the Premier League in the past.

And he will be tasked with doing the same thing for the Clarets, who were relegated under Vincent Kompany last term.

Despite the drop, Kompany was headhunted by Bayern Munich and jumped ship at the end of the season, leaving the head coach position at Burnley vacant.

Craig Bellamy was named acting manager until a permanent new boss is found.

According to the BBC, Burnley held a second round of talks with Parker this week and he is now the outright favourite to land the role.

Burnley are also believed to have held talks with Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, but cooled their interest in the Dutchman as well as Frank Lampard.

Bellamy is expected to stay at the club as a coach alongside assistant Henrik Jensen and coaches Mike Jackson and Eliot Tybedo.
